3 day course

CompEx Ex05 and Ex06 Dust
Due to the practical elements of this course and the specialist equipment required, it is delivered at our Rotherham training centre only.

CompEx is the national training and assessment scheme for electro technical crafts personnel who work in potentially explosive atmospheres, such as on and off-shore Oil and Gas Pharmaceuticals, Energy and Chemical industries.

It is a national joint training initiative developed and implemented by the Engineering Equipment and Material Users Association (EEMUA) and JTL and is supported by the Health and Safety Executive.

This 3-day course aims to extend the competence for craftpersons who prepare, install, maintain, and inspect electrical equipment for use in Explosive Dust Atmospheres. The modules meet the competency requirements of IEC 60079 - 14 for Operatives (selection and erection) and IEC 60079 - 17 for Operatives (inspection and maintenance).

The course includes instruction on how to read hazardous area certification, labelling and documentation relating to dust factors that need to be considered when managing dust clouds and layers. It also covers the main protection concepts, categories and levels that are applied to certified Ex electrical equipment.

The course is split into 1.5 days of guided learning, approximately 6-8 hours theoretical and 2-4 hours practical. The remaining 1.5 days are required for assessments.

Who should take this course?

CompEx Dust is an intense course which is intended for electrotechnical personnel who work on the physical installation and assembly of new ‘Ex’ equipment and perform preventive maintenance and inspections on previously installed equipment in hazardous dust atmospheres. Delegates are required to bring photographic identification and suitable evidence to prove their competence. This ideally will be certification/letter from your employer or a JIB Gold card.
