From sewage pumping stations to the reinstatement of flooded sewage treatment works, we can complete electrical installation services to all types of environmental water sites. We have the capability to fully project manage the installations from the initial design brief, design verification, installation and commissioning, along with all aspects of cost control.
EaWR Compliance and Initial Inspections
Working with water utility companies in conjunction with Earthtech Engineering and as a framework contractor with Mott Macdonald Bentley (MMB), we have developed an ongoing strategy to provide compliance with the Electricity at Work Regulations on all types of clean and environmental assets.
From initial inspection, design verification and remediation, our engineers and management team have gained an understanding of the critical processes of the client’s operations, both on waste and clean water plants, and have developed strategies and safe working procedures to ensure production processes remain operational. The design and implementation of our web based tracking system allows us to monitor the progress of projects more closely and enables us to provide accurate cost management for our clients.
We produce specific documentation and certification to comply with BS 7671 and Guidance Note 3. A design review of your electrical systems is then provided to check compliance using Trimble (Amtech) computer based design packages.
To be able to undertake all aspects of water engineering, our site inspectors, installation engineers and management team have undergone extensive training, including:
- EUSR National Water Hygiene
- Confined Space Entry Procedures
- Water Utilities Competency Authorisation
To date we have been employed on over 5,000 sites ranging from computer facilities to sewage treatment works.
Our experience has also seen us carry out EaWR Compliance and Initial Inspections on over 300 assets on bases belonging to the Army, Royal Navy and RAF, for the MoD within “Project Aquatrine” for which our teams have security clearance to allow this work to be done.
We have developed a strategy for carrying out Periodic Inspections to water utility sites subject to an initial inspection. This includes visual inspections and structured sample testing to allow preliminary records to be updated and the results verified, allowing assessment of the condition of the electrical installation and carrying out any remediation works required.
Flood recovery assessment
If your site suffers flood damage to your electrical systems and process operations, it is critical that they’re back operational as quickly as possible. Prior to the restoration of power, our dedicated team will run various risk assessments and a basic regime of testing to the electrical installation and control panels.
We will then run a periodic inspection and test to affected installations to verify their condition and create a long-term plan for replacement.
We have been employed to carry out incident investigations by many water utility providers, following reports of dangerous occurrences on their assets. As part of this service, we provide recommendations to rectify any faults found, to ensure the ongoing safety of all personnel and visitors to the site.
We provide technical support and advice to develop codes of practice in conjunction your requirements, and design support for other business units within Centrica.
The Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations (DSEAR)
Working on the back of our success in EaWR compliance, we now offer a DSEAR compliance solution and are experienced in the inspection of ATEX electrical equipment.
Based on our existing EaWR model, this specialist area is evolving at a rapid pace and we are supporting our clients throughout to refine the product. We have developed bespoke documentation and remedial solutions which have been written into the latest scope of works for our partners.
For continuous development of the scope and to improve levels of compliance, we are producing various inspection solutions based on “trial” scopes of work. This allows the client to risk assess and review their own specification to implement a cost-effective solution which will ensure compliance over a widespread number of sites across the UK.
